Each second kindergarten in Moldova was renovated with money provided by Romania. The works were performed within the Technical and Financial Assistance Program “Investing in education, investing in the future. Rehabilitation of preschool infrastructure in the Republic of Moldova with the support of the Government of Romania”. Thus, 832 kindergartens of the country were repaired and renovated, with more than 170,000 children benefitting directly from the Romanian assistance, IPN reports.
In the event held to sum up the program’s results, Romania’s Ambassador in Chisinau Daniel Ionita said not the figures, the €23 million allocated, actually count in this project, but the fact that all the money was spent efficiently. “It is education that is important. It is important that each second kindergarten in the Republic of Moldova benefitted from this program. The people are important, each of the over 200,000 beneficiaries of the program – children who attend nursery schools that meet European standards, parents who can go to work knowing that their children are safe and educators who like to go to their work,” stated the diplomat.
According to him, Romania has been permanently near the Republic of Moldova, geographically, historically, spiritually, politically, culturally and from the viewpoint of traditions. By this program, Moldova’s road to the EU is consolidated for the people of this country.
Daniel Ionita announced that the Government of Romania decided to extend this project until this yearend. Thus, it will allocate an additional tranche of €3 million for the education system.
Prime Minister Pavel Filip said Romania remains the most consistent supporter of the Republic of Moldova. Education is a top priority for the government as the people must have a high level of culture so as to later produce high value added. “A state can develop well based on three important pillars. These are: supremacy of the law, developed infrastructure, and education,” he stated.
Mircea Esanu, executive director of the Moldova Social Investment Fund that implemented the project, mentioned among the results of the program the replacement of the roofs of 268 kindergartens, the purchase of 710 sets of furniture for nursery schools, the modernization of the heating systems of about 240 kindergartens and thermal insulation of 140 institutions.
