Each local police station will be equipped in accordance with the European standards by 2017, Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean said in a program on RTR Moldova channel, IPN reports.
The minister said the local policemen will be provided with cars so that they swifter move through their territory, while the police stations will be repaired and outfitted with last-generation equipment. Emphasis will be laid on the modernization of the border police so as to reach the Schengen standards by 2017. The salaries of police officers will be increased to 9,000 lei. Most of the costs are covered with grants.
The minister said the population has the greatest trust in local police officers. “Our polls show that 70% of the population trusts the local police officer, while 30% trust the police service,” he stated. In this connection, Dorin Recean noted that the population’s negative attitude to the police is created artificially. The mass media also contribute to such an attitude. “Let’s take the theft at the Metro supermarket. During almost two months, they daily spoke about this case. But when the criminals were caught, they spoke about two hours about them and forgot this case,” he stated.
The minister also said that all the criminal authorities in Moldova are under arrest. “There are no thieves in law on Moldova’s territory. They are all in jail. Only Grigore Karamalak remained, but he is in Moscow and hasn’t been in Moldova for many years. However, members of criminal groups are trying to finance political parties in order to influence the political class,” he stated.
