The Central Election Commission (CEC) approved the concept of the “e-Voting” system. According to the document, the electors will be able to vote through an accessible online platform by using an electronic identification instrument, IPN reports.
As the traditional voting on paper, electronic voting consists of two steps. The first step is the identification of the voter based on IDs compatible with the electronic identification systems. The second step is the voting itself. Within the IT system of the CEC, electronic voting will be ensured by an information subsystem called “e-Voting”, which is part of the information system “Elections”.
“The electronic voting system is designed to offer the citizens of the Republic of Moldova an alternative voting system so that the electoral process becomes more accessible, inclusive, safe and innovative. It is intended for all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova wherever they are. Ensuring access to the electoral process for the citizens who are unable to go to the polling place is a specific objective of this method,” said the Commission.
The implementation of the electronic voting system will be correlated with the implementation of the National Digital Transformation Strategy. After the system is approved, technical solutions will be designed and the legal framework will be adjusted.
The CEC decision is to be submitted to the Government and Parliament for consideration.
