E-learning platform introduced to specialists from youth-friendly health centers

An e-learning platform developed in Estonia, which contains information on sexual and reproductive health for young people, was presented to the professionals from the youth-friendly health centers – the Youth Klinic Moldova network. The online learning platform allows the certification of specialists from various fields which involve young people and will be accessible in one year in Moldova.

The platform was brought to Chișinău by the National Resource Center of health services friendly to young people "NEOVITA" and presented to about 30 specialists by trainers from Estonia during a seminar, held between November 14 and 16.

The head of the "NEOVITA" Center, Galina Leșco, told IPN that the platform aims to implement sustainable tools for training health skills related to youth health in a cost-effective and modern way. "The E-learning platform will be adapted to the Republic of Moldova, so as to include seven priority health problems that adolescents face. The current version shows fewer health issues and emphasizes on sexual-reproductive health. It will be a very good training tool, which we hope will positively influence the quality of health services for adolescents", said Galina Leșco.

The "NEOVITA" Center manager said that resources are needed in order to adapt the Estonian platform and include new data. She added that the planning of the adaptation will commence after the pilot presentation takes place in Moldova. Currently, skill sheets of YK center specialists are being developed. The electronic training platform will facilitate the targeted training of relevant skills.

Estonian trainer Mairi Kaha, a midwife-gynecologist practitioner, said that the e-learning platform, created for specialists working with young people in Estonian consultation centers and other institutions, is set up in two languages: Estonian and Russian. The program contains eight topics and related video courses and other materials. Upon completion of each topic, there is an examination. The platform's data can be updated.

Angela Chițanu, a gynecologist at the Leova Youth Friendly Health Center, said that it is important that all staff in the youth service centers should have a basic training in the field in order to provide professional counseling for young people.

Valeriu Cojocari, head of the youth-friendly health center "Calipso" from Anenii Noi, said that e-learning is accessible not only for doctors, but for other medical professionals as well. "The information is based on peer-reviewed data, adapted to age categories, which is very valuable", stressed Valeriu Cojocari.

The event was organized with the support of the "Healthy Generation" Project together with the Estonian Development Agency and was funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
