Political analyst Corneliu Ciurea for 2017 forecasts dynamics similar to those of 2016. According to him, a number of obstacles will be created at the start of 2017 by the opponents of the regime. In fact, the Democratic Party, together with the other groups of the parliamentary alliance, will have to re-form the power. The opinions were stated in an interview for Radio Free Europe, IPN reports.
Asked how he would characterize 2016, Corneliu Ciurea said there were both positive and negative developments. “Certainly, the current government managed to strengthen its positions by making particular concessions to the opposition in the course of the year. Towards the end of the year, it achieved several notable results. Among the most important of these is the resumption of financing by international institutions, which this way show that they started to trust the government formed under the guidance of the PDM and Mister Plahotniuc in 2016. In general, I think the diagnosis of the government is more accurate than that of the opposition. The situation was stabilized. The protests mounted at the start of this year have faded away. I hope we will not witness serious turmoil in 2017,” he stated.
As to the presidential elections, the analyst said the good result achieved by Igor Dodon does not consolidate, but confirms the status of the pro-Russian left in Moldova.
Speaking about the new parties created in 2016 – “Action and Solidarity” and Platform “Dignity and Truth” - Corneliu Ciurea said that apparently these have all the chances of asserting themselves on the political arena. They have an advantage compared with other parties of the right. If they choose correct strategies, they could conquer the political right in the elections of 2018.
According to the analyst, it is important for Maia Sandu and Andrei Nastase to find a correct method of cooperation, to avoid fratricide wars and to focus on their real opponents. There are doubts in society and among experts about their capacity to follow the correct path as the ambitions on the right are very great, while the two politicians are young and inexperienced.
