Dwellers of Chisinau block destroyed by blast can return home

The dwellers of the apartment building located in Râșcani district of Chisinau that was destroyed by a blast this October can return home. A number of 116 of the 126 apartments can be already inhabited. Finishing works are performed in 10 apartments on the 14th-17th floors that were most seriously damaged in the blast, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure said they are working on regulations that envision the utilization, filling and transportation of gas cylinders all over Moldova.

The explosion occurred in the evening of October 6, claiming five lives, including of a child aged four. The head of the Chisinau City Prosecutor’s Office Ștefan Șaptefrați told IPN earlier that the blast followed a gas leak from the gas stove. It is presumed that the apartment owner left the nozzle open out of negligence and the area was filled with gas.

The building wasn’t connected to the gas neatwork and the gas stove was used unlawfully. As a result of the explosion, the municipality decided to provide compensations to the inhabitants of Chisinau municipality whose apartments are outfitted only with electric stoves so that these are not tempted to use gas stoves illegally to save money. The compensation will represent 25% of the electricity bill.
