DVB-T2 equipment required for receiving digital signal

As of January 1, 2018, the TV channels in Moldova will broadcast only in digital format. The digital television signal could be decoded by TV sets that have DVB-T2 equipment incorporated. The ordinary TV sets will need an additional device called set-top box.

Media expert Alexandru Dorogan has told IPN that the analog terrestrial signal after December 31, 2017 will disappear and only the digital terrestrial signal will remain. The set-top box must be standardized and accredited, in accordance with the quality requirements. At this stage, there is chaos and it is not clear who and what duties have.

Under the Government’s transition to digital television program, a campaign to inform the people was to be carried out so that the people know about the changes and purchase certified set-top boxes.

Contacted by IPN, engineer Nicolae Coptu said the TV set instructions show if the TV set receives DVB-C, DVB-S, DVB-T or DVB-T2 signals. To be sure that the TV set receives the corresponding signal, this should include the DVB-T2 technology. The modern TV sets usually have such equipment incorporated. If they do not, a set-top box is needed to decode the DVB-T2 signal.

Currently, eight TV channels broadcast in digital format through multiplex A that can support 15 channels. A set-top box costs 500 to 900 lei.
