A citizen of the Netherlands has been extradited from Georgia to the Republic of Moldova. He is accused of children trafficking within an international network, including on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, between 2015 and 2018, IPN reports.
The Prosecutor General's Office said in a press release that the accused took advantage of the difficult financial situation of some families from a locality in the south of the country, in order to gain their trust. He selected children up to the age of 14, to whom he offered presents, financially facilitating their participation in entertainment activities.
The man invited children to his house in the same locality, but also in Romania. There, he and other unidentified persons subjected them to non-commercial sexual exploitation. As they became dependent on the help of the accused, they did not perceive the real nature of what happened.
For the charges against him the citizen of the Netherlands risks a prison sentence of 15 to 20 years or life imprisonment.
