The head of the Military Supervision Division of the Durlesti mayor’s office was caught red-handed by officers of the National Anticorruption Center and anticorruption prosecutors in the afternoon of April 29. The functionary, who is a lieutenant-colonel in rank, is suspected of asking for €1,000 from a woman for helping her get rid of a criminal case over hooliganism started against her, IPN reports.

According to the National Anticorruption Center, several days ago the woman transmitted €300 to the functionary under the Center’s control. Today she gave him the other €700. Immediately afterward, the public servant was arrested. The money was found in the functionary’s car parked on the territory of the mayor’s office.

He was put under arrest for 72 hours and faces a fine of up to 60,000 lei or three to seven years in jail for traffic of influence.
