The Republic of Moldova has a good image abroad, including in Japan, but there is still work to be done to make it better known to the Japanese people, stated Dumitru Socolan, Moldova’s ambassador to Japan, in an interview on the sidelines of the Annual Convention of Moldova’s Foreign Service.
“We have a good image, we are a people with a big heart, a people who received refugees from another country because there are countries that have the same problems with people from their own country and they don’t always find shelter in their own country. We have sheltered foreigners, so this is highly valued in Japan. At the same time, we share the same principles and values with the Japanese. When we talk about Moldova, we talk about a country that is in the list of ‘like-minded countries.’ It gives me pleasure to see myself in this list again, to see my country in this list again”, declared the ambassador.
Dumitru Socolan says that in this tumultuous period, with many events in the region, it is absolutely necessary to reiterate the objectives of the diplomatic missions.
“We realize that in Tokyo I will not be so intensive in my messages on European integration, although in my dialogue with colleagues from the European missions in Tokyo, of course, I address this topic. When we talk about economic diplomacy, here I see a strong point of our mission in that area”, he added.
According to the ambassador, the dialogue with the Japanese business community or the motivation of Moldovan businessmen for the Japanese market is a serious, strong element in the daily diplomatic activity in Tokyo.
