Dumitru Grosei: I would like this shameful customs posts on the Prut to no longer exist

The increasing of the level of culture and constant investments in this field can ensure that the future generations also enjoy the results, in a bigger country, without the border on the Prut. Currently, we need greater involvement on the part of all the decision makers for the established cooperation relations to produce results and the way for new partnerships is paved, film director Dumitru Grosei, founder and president of the Association of Independent Filmmakers of the Republic of Moldova, stated in a public debate hosted by IPN News Agency.

Dumitru Grosei noted that this cooperation in the field of culture should start from each of us, from each citizen’s attitude to the values that unite the two banks of the Prut. “I would like this shameful customs posts on the Prut to no longer exist and that we stopped talking about Moldovan-Romanian cooperation. We should become one country and should live normally in our county. We should cooperate with the Russians, with everyone, but should no longer be told who we are, what language we speak and so on. Therefore, we should bear in mind who we are and what we went through in recent history. We should not repeat the same mistakes,” said the film director.

He also said that more time should pass until the Romanian culture is really reintegrated, but particular sacrifices should be made for the purpose. “In the Soviet times, I was beaten as it was so hard to simply speak Romanian and to behave like Romanians without doing nothing else. We now see that they no longer speak Romanian literally. Here, we speak using Russian words, while over the Prut they speak using English words,” stated Dumitru Grosei.

He noted that among the results of the nice cooperation between Romania and the Republic of Moldova is the organization of the Romanian Film Days, which is an event financed by two important institutions of Romania – the Department for the Relationship with the Republic of Moldova of the Government of Romania, which makes the most important contribution to this project, and the Romanian Cultural Institute. In Chisinau, this project is supported by the Ministry of Culture, the National Cinematography Center and the Chisinau City Hall.

“We can say that in our case, this cooperation is very good. At the beginning, the involvement was greater on the other side of the Prut. In time, our institutions also became involved and their contribution and the quality of the event increased. So, in our case there is cooperation on both side and it is fruitful and, as I said, it develops,” added Dumitru Grosei.

The public debate entitled “Moldovan-Romanian cooperation in cultural sector, opened opportunities” was staged in the framework of the project “Double integration through cooperation and information”, which is implemented by IPN News Agency with support from the Department for the Relationship with the Republic of Moldova of the Government of Romania.
