The president of honor of the Democratic Party (PDM) Dumitru Diacov said the problems faced by the party are also the country’s problems. According to him, the Republic of Moldova needs a party in the center of the political spectrum that would keep the balance. “This is important for the further development of the country,” the politician was quoted by IPN as saying in the program “Friday with Anatolie Golea” on RTR Moldova channel.
The Democratic heavyweight said the next congress of the party set for July 27 will discuss the preparations for the October 20 local elections. “It is now important to discuss with the local organizations so that we get ready for the local elections. It is important to show cohesion inside the party. The future leader of the party and the team that will center on the local elections are also important,” he stated.
The politician believes Pavel Filip is a serious candidate for the leadership of the PDM. “Fortunately, we have many persons who could occupy the post of president of the PDM. The people take an active part and propose ideas as to the future administration of the party. That’s why our main tasks at the congress are to mobilize and choose the new composition of the executive committee. We will see how the party’s administration should look like,” he said.
As to the former leader of the PDM, Dumitru Diacov said he considers this will not return to the party even if he hasn’t yet left the administration. “Sooner or later, Vladimir Plahotniuc will renounce his seat of MP and new elections will be held in Nisporeni constituency,” he stated.
The politician voiced hope that the PDM will have a candidate in the local elections in Chisinau even if they understand there is division into radical groups in the capital city. “It’s regrettable that we didn’t grow a person specialized in the problems of Chisinau City. We have many interesting persons with experience, but there is no expert in the city’s problems,” he noted, adding the party will definitely have a candidate in the future presidential elections.
