The leader of the Democratic parliamentary group Dumitru Diacov earlier advised the former Communist MP Igor Dodon not to defect from the Communist Party (PCRM), but stay and strengthen his position. Dumitru Diacov told about this in the program “In Profunzime” on Pro TV channel on Monday evening, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Several weeks ago I told him not to hurry to leave. I urged Dumitru Braghis not to defect from Urechean’s party as well, but he did not listen to me,” said Dumitru Diacov. Speaking about Igor Dodon’s defection from the PCRM, the leaders of the parliamentary groups of the parties that form part of the ruling alliance said that the three former Communist lawmakers will be invited to negotiations so as to discuss a possible candidate for the presidency. The leader of the Liberal group Ion Hadarca said they will vote only for the alliance’s candidate - Marian Lupu. According to Dumitru Diacov, the candidacy of Missis Greceanyi will be discussed when there is a definite proposal. The head of the Liberal-Democratic group Valeriu Strelet said they will consider the possibility of Zinaida Greceanyi being fielded as a presidential candidate, but Marian Lupu is the only candidate for the time being. The three officials anticipated that the negotiations with the PCRM will be difficult. “The possible talks with the PCRM may be counterproductive. Vladimr Voronin might try to entice the ruling alliance into entering a new stage of negotiations and this may delay the discussions with Mister Dodon,” said Valeriu Strelet. Both Valeriu Strelet and Ion Hadarca said they will consider an apolitical candidate if no consensus is reached as regards the candidature on behalf of the ruling alliance. They said the parties have such reserve candidates. Igor Dodon, Zinaida Greceanyi and Veronica Abramchuk left the Communist parliamentary group last week, arguing they want to help elect the head of state so that the political crisis is overcome.
