The meeting of the National Council of the Democratic Party (PDM) was scheduled for June 29, the party’s president of honor Dumitru Diacov stated in the talk show “Politics of Natalia Morari” on TV8 channel. He said the meeting will include heated debates on the party’s future and partially on the existing contradictions, IPN reports.
Dumitru Diacov noted the meeting will draw conclusions, will analyze the created situation and will agree the steps that need to be taken to reform the party and to change its program. “We must do so that the Democratic Party returns to its origins and is a party that unites the people and serves as a bridge between those from the right and those from the left,” he stated.
The politician noted he will demand that some of the persons should resign. “These people should better resign themselves. I hope we will have an extended, heated and principled discussion with pain in the heart as to what should be done to remedy the situation so that the PDM becomes a respected party,” he noted.
Dumitru Diacov said his role is to now restore the initial purpose of the Democratic Party. It will be very hard in Moldovan politics without the PDM as this party ensures a kind of balance between the forces of the left and those of the right.
During over 20 years of existence, the PDM has never been in such a situation. “We do not like this perception of the party from outside the party and should put things right,” stated the politician.
The Democratic Party that had been solely in power since 2016 and earlier together with other parties as part of government coalitions withdrew to the opposition last week. On June 24, Vladimir Plahotniuc announced his resignation as president of the PDM. The party’s congress is to elect a new leader.
