After the extraordinary congress of the Democratic Party that was scheduled for September 7, the PDM will be a party without Vladimir Plahotniuc. It will have a new leadership, a more concrete ideology and a development and behavioral program, the party’s president of honor Dumitru Diacov was quoted by IPN as stating in the program “Politics of Natalia Morari” on TV8 channel. The politician didn’t yet say it clearly if the former leader of the PDM will leave the party and the seat of MP.
“We know there were objections towards the PDM and we accept them. On the other hand, the Democratic Party in this period did many good things, but no one speak about them owing to particular actions, conflicts,” stated Dumitru Diacov.
He noted he does not know if Vladimir Plahotniuc will vacate the seat of MP and this decision will be taken by Plahotniuc himself. “Each MP answers before their voters and enjoys the immunity guaranteed by law. That’s why Mister Plahotniuc or any other MP acts as they consider necessary,” said the Democratic heavyweight.
He also said that he is interested in having some of the well-known personalities who earlier formed part of the PDM back in the party, possibly in administrative posts. He discussed the issue with analyst Andrei Popov, for example, and with others, but none of these is yet ready to return to the PDM.
Dumitru Diacov stated he does not want to hold the post of party president again. “I do not want to return to this post. But I will do my utmost for the best of them to win the competition. I want a contest to be held and we should keep an internal balance,” he said.
The PDM remained without a leader after Vladimir Plahotniuc vacated this post following the PDM’s switchover to the opposition in the middle of June. Later, in a meeting of the party’s Political Council, all the vice presidents and the secretary general were dismissed.
