Dubasari farmers protect Moldova's political security interests without being helped, district head
The international organizations do not have the possibility of intervening and forcing the separatist authorities to observe the legal or even moral norms in the relations with our citizens, including in the area of private property, said the head of Dubasari district Grigore Policinski.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Policinski said the Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov banned the signing of contracts allowing the farmers to cultivate their land located beyond the Dubasari – Tiraspol route. According to Policinski, Smirnov said the terms stated in the old contracts expire on December 1, 2009 will be extended by one year, but no new contracts will be signed.
Asked if this poses risks to the residents of the Transnistrian villages controlled by the Moldovan constitutional authorities, who own land on the territory controlled by the secessionist authorities, Policinski said there is a permanent danger. “They can modify their decisions every day. They can sequestrate any car, close any person, ban access to any zone. They obey no one. Neither we, the local authorities, nor the international institutions can do something,” he said.
Policinski also said that letters have been sent to the Embassy of Russia, Embassy of Ukraine, the OSCE Mission to Chisinau and the European Commission, asking them to contribute to the initiation of talks with the Transnistrian administration. But only the OSCE Mission reacted. “In order not to involve the international organizations, Smirnov took a unilateral decision, as if accepting our proposal to extend the contracts for a year. But we did not ask for this. We want that we are allowed to move freely, without conditions and restrictions. The border guards and customs officers ask documents for every sack of wheat and for the transported diesel oil,” he said.
Asked if the farmers will cultivate the land next year or will give up, Policinski answered that the people always work this land given the need to ensure the country's political security. “This is not the interest of several villages or of a district only, but of entire Moldova's interest. We are obliged and did everything possible to protect this interest on the left side of the Nistru,” the head of Dubasari district said.
