The Moldovan tennis players are in good form before the duel with Portugal in the Davis Cup that will take place in Chisinau in September. The leader of the national team Radu Albot will compete in the qualifiers of the U.S. Open, while Maxim Dubarenco and Andrei Ciumac are taking part in competitions of the Futures circuit.
Dubarenko has qualified for the second round of the competition held in Romania’s Medias after beating the representative of the hosts Luca George Tatomir 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. The Moldovan athlete, together with Romania’s Alexandru Carpen, qualified for the final of the doubles after winning 6-1, 6-4 against another Moldovan-Romanian pair, Alexandru Cozbinov/Alexandru Marasin, in the 1/8 finals.
Andrei Ciumac scored victories at the ITF tournament in Minsk. He defeated the hosts’ favorite Aliaksandr Bulitski 6-2, 7-5 and qualified for the quarterfinals. In the next phase of the competition, his opponent will be Germany’s Stefan Seifert, who is the main favorite.
Albot, Dubarenko and Ciumac will join the men’s tennis team in the first world group of the Davis Cup on September 13-15.
