The dry trees are being cut in all the districts of Chisinau. The wood is later used to repair park benches. About 700 trees have been cut so far this year.

Contacted by IPN, the head of the municipal green areas managing company Eliferii Haruta said the trees are cut because they are dry or damaged. “Instead of the cut trees, we will plant new trees. No saplings will be planted under the large trees. About 2 million lei was spent on the tree cutting works,” stated Eliferii Haruta.

The branches are taken to waste dumps, while the trunk wood is used to repair park benches. If it’s not good for use, it is burned. Six to ten employees are involved in the works.

A number of 45 trees were cut and another over 150 trees were trimmed last week.
