The police announced that they pulled over the first person caught driving in an advanced state of intoxication, who will be penalized according to the new provisions of the Criminal Code. The driver risks a fine of up to 125,000 lei or 1 to 3 years in jail, in both cases with ban on driving, IPN reports.
The driver was stopped by the police because they noticed that he was driving unevenly on Independenței St in Băcioi commune. The breathalyzer test showed a concentration of 1.03 mg/l of alcohol vapor in the exhaled air, which indicates an advanced degree of intoxication.
The car was picked up and taken to the special parking lot, while the driver was escorted to the Botanica Police Inspectorate. He was detained for 72 hours.
“The driver risks a fine of 75,000 to 125,000 lei or imprisonment from 1 to 3 years, in both cases with ban on driving means of transport. The penalty is imposed by the court,” said the General Police Inspectorate.
The penalties for persons who driver under the influence of alcohol or without a license became much harsher on September 7. The refusal to take a breathalyzer or drug test, as well as to evade a medical examination to establish the degree of intoxication, will be punished drastically. The fine is up to 150,000 lei or imprisonment for a term of 1 to 4 years, in both cases with ban on driving.
