Drugs worth over 3m lei seized by police

More than 180 searches were performed all over the country within a new anti-drug operation on December 7. As a result, the police seized drugs of different types to the value of over 3 million lei. Of the 114 suspects, seven were arrested, IPN reports.

In a news conference, chief of the National Investigations Inspectorate Ion Iakimov said the anti-drug operation of December 7 is the third large-scale operation after the two conducted in October and November.

Head of the Inspectorate’s Anti-Drug Division Ion Turcanu said there was seized a large quantity of drugs – 27 kg. These included ethnobotanics, marijuana, opium, precursors, dried hemp plants and poppy seeds ready for being sold. They also found heavy drugs, such as cocaine and heroine, which were packed in small doses prepared for sale.

The police also discovered a greenhouse for cultivating hemp plants and a lab for making and counterfeiting alcoholic beverages. There were found 37 liters of ethyl alcohol and destroyed six labs for making drugs. During searches, the police also confiscated illegally held guns and munitions.

According to the National Investigations Inspectorate, over 90 kg of drugs were seized during the three anti-drug operations. These are to be destroyed by a court decision.

The suspects face 7 to 15 years in jail.
