Drug traffickers to be tracked down by anti-drug dogs

The drug traffickers will be discovered from now on by anti-drug dogs, instructed namely for this together with their companions, at the Customs Surveillance School from La Rocchelle, France. The head of the Department for Penal Investigations and Customs Frauds within the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova, Grigore Ciubuc says that in order to verify if they are well grounded, at the Ungheni Customs Office was organized a special training within which there were examined the possibilities of discovering the drugs hidden in the wagons of a train. A real situation for evaluating the reflexes of the dogs was simulated. The quadrupeds, a French donation, managed to detect the drugs from all the hiding places. The squads have cars equipped for transporting dogs, due to the donation within the “The assistance program for preventing drug abuse and trafficking in Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova (BUMAD program), financed by the European Union. These teams are extremely mobile and can cover if necessary all customs control regions, and have the possibility to check any kind of transport, but also luggage. During 2005 the penal investigations officers within the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova started proceedings in 6 cases against drug traffickers. In the first half of 2006, 7 similar proceedings were initiated.
