Drug pricing mechanism to become law
The new pricing mechanism for medicines established by the Government will become a law. The proposed mechanism, already passed by the Government, provides for the declaration of the producer's prices upon the import of the medicines and their registration in the National Price Register approved by the Minister of Health, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Deputy Economy Minister Octavian Calmic said the modifications to the Law on pharmaceutical activity specify the meaning of the buy price, which is the price paid by the importer to the manufacturer. The markup, along the entire marketing chain, shall not exceed 40% of the producer's price. To decrease the price of the medicines sold nationally, it is proposed that the maximum profit level should be fixed at 15%.
The Government will also introduce certain restrictions on drug imports by refusing to issue import authorizations if certain medicines are not included in the Price Register. The bodies invested with control functions in the field are those subordinated to the Ministry of Health, to the Ministry of Finance, and the Anticorruption Center.
