Drought is both good and bad
This autumn’s drought is both good and bad, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov has told Info-Prim Neo.
Owing to the shortage of precipitation, problems are encountered when harvesting the sugar beet and when sowing grain. At the same time, the corn and sunflower seeds can dry normally, while the grapes accumulate more sugar, said the minister.
“Some of the crops are affected by the lack of rain, while others benefit from such a situation. In 2007 for example, we had the best wine, but the grain harvest represented only 10% of the projected one,” said Vasile Bumacov.
The State Hydrometeorology Service forecast high temperatures for the next days. No precipitation is expected until the end of the month.
