Drivers who unlawfully installed access limitation devices or parking barriers to keep a parking space reserved in Chisinau remain without these devices following the intervention of municipal authorities. The raids are being conducted in Ciocana district, but similar actions are taken constantly in other districts as well.
According to the Chisinau City Hall, such measures are taken to provide equal access to public parking spaces. In addition to the fact that they remain without these devices, the people who installed them also face penalties, IPN reports.
Representatives of the municipality said that these measures are essential to ensure a city accessible to all the inhabitants. The public spaces belong to the community and cannot be abusively occupied by people who create private parking lots without authorization.
The problem of illegally occupied parking spaces is not new in Chisinau. Over the years, residents reported multiple cases when public spaces were transformed into personal parking lots by installing parking barriers, chains or metal devices. Although the authorities periodically carry out dismantling actions, the phenomenon persists, being fueled by the lack of parking spaces and drivers’ wish to secure a suitable parking place.
