Drivers who break railroad crossing rules will be punished harsher

The drivers who will cross the railroad not through level crossings face fines of 1,500 to 2,000 lei, 20 to 30 hours of community service or arrest for 15 days. They will be also banned from driving a vehicle for half a year. Such amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses were approved by the Government on October 29, IPN reports.

The crossing of the railroad through level crossings, but with violation of the traffic rules will be punished with a fine of 2,000 to 2,500 lei, 30 to 40 hours of community service or arrest for 15 days. In all the cases the culprits will be deprived of the driver’s license for a period of one year.

If the drivers cause railroad accidents, the fine will be 3,000 lei and the driver’s license will be withdrawn for 2 to 3 years.

Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Vasile Botnari said the 24 railroad accidents that happened in 2009-2012 resulted in 16 deaths.
