The most energy-efficient tires offer increased safety in traffic, reduce fuel consumption and the noise emitted by the vehicle, said specialists of the Energy Efficiency Agency who, in concert with the National Patrolling Inspectorate, in an event called on the drivers to choose tires based on their energy efficiency, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Agency.

According to the director of the Energy Efficiency Agency Alexandru Ciudin, the most energy-efficient tires ensure better wet braking and reduce external noise. This enables the driver to better control the vehicle and to drive safely. The car consumes less fuel and eliminates less gas.

Analyses showed that if the drivers chose a set of an efficiency class A tires to the detriment of an efficiency class G set, they will reduce fuel consumption by up to 9%, which is they will consume 300 liters of fuel for over 45,000 km covered (for a car with a 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine) or 240 liters (for a car with turbo diesel engine).

Analyses also revealed that if the vehicles registered in the country use the most energy-efficient tires when the travelled distance is about 10,000 km a year, about 5,400 tonnes of fuel will be saved annually, which is over 86 million lei in terms of money. Moreover, the volume of CO2 emissions will decrease by over 13,500 tonnes.

The energy labeling of tires in the EU has been mandatory since November 2012. Moldova will also soon have regulations providing this. All the importers, distributors and sellers of tires will be obliged to sell tires only with energy label.

There are about 150 companies that sell and distribute tires in Moldova, but there is no tire producer here. Most of the tires are imported from China, such CIS states as Russia, Belarus and Ukraine and also from Turley and EU member states.

At the end of 2017, in Moldova there were over 907,000 units of transport.
