The owners of minibuses with foreign license numbers picketed again the Government Building on April 11. The drivers hooted the horns, expressing their disagreement with the amendments introduced to the Customs Code, Info-Prim Neo reports. From April 4, the cars older than seven with foreign license numbers cannot stay in Moldova for more than three months during a year. The protesters said that those who formulated the amendments did not think about those who had to go abroad to work in order to improve their living standards and returned home with cars. One of the drivers, Vladislav Dubitski said that the cars in Moldova re much more expensive and cost practically twice more. The lawmakers should have announced their intention to modify the law at least a year beforehand, he stated. Another driver, Grigore Bria came to Chisinau from Cahul. He said that if no favorable decision is taken, he will leave the car in front of the Government Building. Another driver said he will set his car on fire as it is now useless. Before the law was amended, the cars older than seven were to be taken out of Moldova after three months, but the drivers were able to return the same day. Liberal MP Valeriu Munteanu submitted a bill on the modification of the customs regime for units of transport and the registration procedure to the Parliament’s Standing Bureau. He proposes adopting a derogation norm that would allow placing the cars brought into the country before April 5 under import customs regime.
