The citizens of the Republic of Moldova and of Turkey, who are settled permanently or temporarily on the territory of the other country, can convert the driver’s license without attending lessons and taking theory and practice exams and also without paying the costs associated with these processes, IPN reports.
According to the Public Services Agency, the conversion of driver’s licenses enables the citizens to drive vehicles in international traffic and facilitate the signing of more advantageous employment contracts in the transport sector. At practical level, the driver’s licenses are converted at the request of holders of driver’s licenses obtained in the Republic of Moldova with an application to the competent authority of the Republic of Turkey. The Turkish citizens will apply to the responsible subdivisions of the Public Services Agency.
The driver’s licenses will be converted based on the principle of equivalence by keeping the categories/subcategories stipulated in the driver’s licenses. The old driver’s licenses stop being valid in six months of the obtaining by the holder of a residence permit on the territory of the other contracting party.
The bilateral agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on the conversion and mutual recognition of driver’s licenses took effect at the beginning of this year. It has an indefinite period of validity.
So far the Republic of Moldova has signed bilateral agreement on the conversion of driver’s licenses with Romania, Italy, Lithuania, Germany, and Turkey.
