Even if the parking on a number of main streets of Chisinau was restricted as of March 1 by order of the deputy mayor, drivers continue to leave the vehicles right under road signs than ban stopping. An example is Pushkin St along which the drivers park in banned places, IPN reports.
Under the order, parking on sidewalks and the roadway on the streets Ștefan cel Mare, Grigore Vieru, Constantin Tănase, Bănulescu-Bodoni, Alexei Mateevici, Alexandr Pushkin and Kiev is banned.
In a posting on Facebook, deputy mayor Victor Chironda said the district head’s office requested the administration of a shopping center located on Pushkin St to set up signs limiting parking by the sidewalk. “They got angry, removed the poles and refused to place them back. Regrettably, this is the social responsibility level of some of the businesspersons. I would not comment on the fact that most of the shopping centers in the city were built in breach of the norms regarding parking places. The district head’s office will set up other barriers in several days, at the expense of the municipality. Freeing the sidewalks of illegal parking lots on the streets with public transport is the first step towards ensuring the movement of trolleybuses according to the timetable,” stated the deputy mayor.
Under the Contravention Code, parking in banned places is punished with a fine of 900 to 1,500 lei and four penalty points.
