The Deputy Police Commissioner of the Municipality of Chisinau, Iacob Gumenita says that the drivers can not be stopped from parking the cars on roadways only by means of discussion. “The discussions are useless, as long as the City Hall does not provide parking lots”, Gumenita said. He mentioned that the police officers, employees of “Scut” Regiment and the patrolling teams of the Road Police take measures to optimise the traffic are performed but they all can not deal with the high number of vehicles that travel through the centre of Chisinau daily. Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca has another opinion. He says that although there are places for authorised parking, such as Pushkin Street, across from Casa Presei, the drivers continue to park their cars on roadways. The same situation is characteristic of Banulescu Bodoni Street, near the Flower Market, and of Cosmonautilor Street. In this case, the Mayor says, the police should act more intensely to convince the population. “Such a situation is due to the habits and unwillingness to drive several metres more”, the mayor says. The mayor expressed his conviction that the daily fining of the economic entities that are parking their cars nearby offices will make them observe the rules. He asked the municipal police to step up this week the activities related to the optimisation of traffic on the main streets, such as Pushkin, Banulescu-Bodoni, Eminescu, Stephan the Great, Kogalniceanu, Columna. Although the Mayor pleaded for the optimisation of traffic in the municipality of Chisinau, he forbade the use of repressive methods in this regard.
