Drivers are not afraid of punishment because they resolve everything with money, mayor

Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca puts the blame for the latest accidents involving minibuses on the drivers, saying they are irresponsible and indifferent. According to him, the people are now afraid of traveling by minibuses. “The drivers know that they can face fines, but are impudent. They do what they want. This applies to most of the drivers,” the mayor said in the June 4 meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials. Dorin Chirtoaca stressed that the mayors are not afraid that they may be penalized because they know they can resolve everything with money, even a murder case, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The minibus drivers stage protests and turn things in Chisinau upside down. At the same time, one of the protesting drivers went to earn some more money in Ialoveni and caused an accident with four persons dead and 14 injured. Things cannot go on like this,” said the mayor, referring to the tragic accident that happened near the lake in Danceni, Ialoveni on June 1. The Health Division head Luminita Suveica said that 16 persons needed medical care as a result of the May 29 accident, when a minibus overturned in the center of Chisinau. Eight are still hospitalized, while the driver is in a coma. In the second accident in Danceni, 11 passengers were taken to the Emergency Hospital, two persons are in a coma, four are in the reanimatology section, while five are in the traumatology section. Two children aged 16 and 5 were transferred to the National Children’s Hospital. Three passengers are still in a critical condition.
