The driver who survived the accident near Codreanca village of Strășeni district, in which five people died and another six, including him, were injured, arrived at the Strășeni Court, where he is scheduled to have a hearing at 10:00 a.m. The suspect was brought in a wheelchair, as his leg is in plaster, IPN reports.
While he was taken from the car to the court, the journalists present at the scene asked him questions related to the accident, to which the young man did not answer. It is not known whether he admits his guilt or not, whether he was driving at high speed and what made him move to the contraflow.
The accident occurred on the morning of August 10. Preliminarily, it was established that the 22-year-old man did not make sure it was safe and, performing an overtaking maneuver over the solid line, crashed his car head-on into another car coming from the opposite direction. In one of the two cars engulfed in flames, a Mitsubishi driven by the 22-year-old, a 17-year-old girl and a 56-year-old woman died. In the second car, an Opel, the driver aged 37 and two passengers, a 32-year-old woman and a 54-year-old woman, died. Before the rescuers arrived, passers-by managed to get five children, aged 1, 6, 7, 9 and 13, out of the two cars. All the five were taken to the Mother and Child Institute and three of them were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
A criminal case was initiated on the case for violating traffic safety rules, which led to the death of a number of people. The guilty driver faces 6 to 10 years in jail and bn on driving.
