An inhabitant of Chisinau who four months ago downed an electricity pole killing a man and injuring another five persons was brought to justice. He is accused of violation of traffic rules, with the subsequent death of a person, while under the influence of alcohol, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the accident happened on Lunca Bacului St in Ciocana district of Chisinau on January 26 this year. The accused lost control of the vehicle and this ran into an electricity pole, striking the pedestrians who were near the roadway. A man died on the spot, while another five persons aged between 30 and 54 were hospitalized with different traumas.
The breath test showed the 24-year-old driver, who works at the Training Center of the National Army on a contract basis, was in an advanced state of inebriation. The man who died as a result of the accident was 43 and worked as an engineer at a company. That evening, he was returning home from work.
The accused is now under house arrest. He was also temporarily deprived of the driver’s license. He faces four to eight years in jail and ban on driving for a period of up to five years.
