Driver who caused minibus to overturn was drunk

The driver of the car that hit a minibus running on route No. 171 in Chisinau on Tuesday morning was under the influence of alcohol and left the scene. Tudor Capatana, of the Traffic Police Division's PR department, has told Info-Prim Neo that the accident happened on Calea Iesilor St at 6.50. The BMW driven by an inebriated 19-year-old man struck the minibus laterally. As a result of the impact, the minibus overturned. The driver and a number of passengers received cranial-cerebral traumas, concussions, rib fractures and contusions of the soft tissues. The driver of the BMW ran away, leaving the car that belonged to his brother. At about 16.00, he was caught near the house where he lives. He was seriously intoxicated. A bicycle ridden by a 61-year-old man was struck by a tractor on the Chisinau-Cimislia road. The female passenger of the bicycle aged 55 got her shank fractured. A minibus crashed into a combine on the Briceni-Chisinau-Odessa road, not far from Edinet. A passenger of the minibus aged 49 sustained a cranial-cerebral trauma and contusion of the thorax. Fourteen persons were hurt in six road accidents on Tuesday, April 6. The other 37 traffic accidents reported caused no victims. The traffic police imposed 387 fines, 48 of which for traveling with the seat belt not fastened, while 46 for speeding.
