Driver to blame for eight deaths in Bulboaca accident convicted
The driver who caused a traffic accident in Bulboaca, as a result of which eight persons died, was sentenced to nine years and a half in jail. The decision was passed by the Anenii Noi Court on April 19.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, prosecutor of Anenii Noi district Aurel Burlacu said that the prosecutors asked for ten years behind bars.
The decision can be appealed to the Court of Appeals.
The accident happened on railroads in Bulboaca on November 1, 2011. A minibus with 17 passengers running on the Anenii Noi – Serpeni route collided with a train. According to the police, the driver ignored the red color of the stoplights.
Mayor of Serpeni Elena Nicolaev said then that among the passengers who died was a 13-year-old boy. The rest were women aged between 20 and 50, including mothers with three and five children.
The driver has three children. He raises them alone as his wife died.
After the accident, the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure announced that the minibus ran illegally.
