The arrest of the minibus driver who transported acoustic equipment to the protest mounted on September 17, who allegedly caused bodily injuries to a number of police officers, was arrested with a series of procedural violations, the man’s lawyer Iulian Rusanovski stated in the program “Politics” on TV8 channel, IPN reports.
Alexei Alexeev’s lawyer said the evidence provided by the prosecutors was also recorded with violations. No police employee asked for medical assistance at the place of the protest on September 17. “Indeed, a number of police officers complained about pain in the legs, but didn’t specify what kind of pain,” he stated.
Alexandru Postica, director of the Human Rights Program of “Promo-LEX” Association, said the biggest problem in this case is the issuing of the warrant for the arrest of Alexei Alexeev. “An arrest warrant was issued even if there was no risk of evasion. I cannot understand how this person can influence witnesses and can destroy evidence, which are the main elements taken into account in such a case,” he stated.
Dinu Plangau, a member of the Platform “Dignity and Truth”, said Alexei Alexeev is not guilty. The minibus driver was arrested in a move to intimidate the people who protest. “Anyone could be in the case of Mister Alexeev and could come to the protest and be arrested,” noted Dinu Plangau.
Grigore Moga, of the General Police Inspectorate, said Alexei Alexeev is accused of use of violence against employees of the Inspectorate. He faces four to eight years in jail.
