The state commission in charge endorsed the draft National Defense Strategy by a unanimous vote, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Ministry of Defense.
Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru, who heads the commission, said the National Defense Strategy is a guide for the representatives of institutions that are directly involved in the ensuring of defense and a textbook for the Moldovan citizens. “The strategy comes to interrupt a period of grave absence in the defense sector and represents a starting point for a series of reformation and modernization actions and actions to adjust the defense system to the new geopolitical context,” he stated.
The head of the strategic defense reform team Keith A. Dunn said the elaboration of the document is a first step in the defense sector reform. According to him, a military strategy is to be worked out, which must contain a through analysis of the real needs in the military sector, the structure of the armed forces and the budget funding. The team of experts will continue to offer assistance and expertise to the Ministry of Defense.
