Draft laws to be analyzed through angle of gender equality

All the bills will be examined through the angle of gender equality before they are adopted. The integrated approach to the gender dimension in all the policies, programs and in the decision-making process of Parliament is contained in the gender equality action plan for 2017-2021 that was adopted by the legislature’s Standing Bureau at the end of the spring session, IPN reports.

According to the Parliament’s press service, the document envisions the introduction of gender-sensitive budgeting and equal participation of men and women in parliamentary activity, rise in the number of women MPs in the executive bodies of the legislature, working groups, parliamentary delegations etc. The legislative framework for ensuring gender equality will be ensured.

By the end of 2018, a study of good international practice will be carried out to identify gender-sensitive language in the internal and external communication of national parliaments. In this connection, there will be analyzed the regulations on the organization and functioning of the Secretariat.

On July 29, the Gender Equality Platform expressed its concerned about the fact that the new Cabinet includes only two women. This is defiance of the national and international commitments to promote gender equality in the decision-making process. The Platform made a call to the state authorities to obey the 40% gender equality quota on the Cabinet and in the executive teams of miniseries so that at least four women are included in these.
