Draft decision on renewal of buses in Chisinau waiting for councilors’ vote

Even if the municipality announced several deadlines by which new buses will start to run on the streets of Chisinau, these time limits are not respected. The draft decision concerning the method of purchasing the units of transport for several times couldn’t be included in the agenda of the meetings of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC), which is the founder of the Chisinau Urban Bus Company.

Contacted by IPN, the company’s director Iacob Capcelea said they identified several methods of taking our a loan for buying better buses than those running in Chisinau, but the final decision is to be taken by the CMC. The municipal councilors must decide if there will be purchased new or secondhand buses. “The draft decision was included in the agenda in spring, but was sent back for reexamination. It later could not be included in the agenda of the Council’s meetings,” stated Iacob Capcelea.

The decision was drafted at the beginning of this year. In the last, October 10 meeting of the CMC, it was decided that the issue will be discussed in the next meeting. If the councilors adopt the decision, an international tender contest will be held. A number of foreign companies already announced their intentions to take part in it.

As many as 117 buses of the Chisinau Urban Bus Company must be removed from routes because they are old. They use much more fuel that the units of transport that are to be bought.
