Draft bill allows radio station Vocea Basarbiei to broadcast Parliament’s meetings live

MP Igor Klipii submitted a draft bill amending the Parliaments’ Regulations and allowing the private radio station Vocea Basarabiei to broadcast live the meetings of the Parliament. Currently, the Parliament’s Regulations say that the plenary meetings, except the closed ones, can be broadcast live on the national radio and television channels. Klipii proposes allowing the private radio and TV channels also to broadcast the meetings live. At the end of July, Vocea Basarabiei expressed its readiness to broadcast the Parliament’s meetings live at its own expense, but no decision on this matter was taken yet. At the end of the previous session, the Communist MPs said that the legislation does not envisage the live transmission by private broadcasters. The Opposition legislators maintain that the public character of the Parliament’s meetings should be taken into consideration when discussing this issue. A week ago, Speaker Marian Lupu said that the problem will be solved only after there will be a bill that will interpret the stipulations of the Parliament’s Regulations. He also said that is in favour of the live broadcast of the meetings.
