Draft agreement to operate direct flights between Moldova and U.S.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Moldova and the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States have finished the consultations on the bilateral Open Skies air transport agreement. The draft agreement is to be approved, signed and ratified by the sides, IPN reports, quoting the Civil Aviation Authority of Moldova.

The agreement will create preconditions for launching direct flights from Chisinau to destinations in the U.S. This will enable the airlines operating at the Chisinau International Airport to provide flights to any destination in the United States.

The flights could be operated by transatlantic airlines with potential to create transit traffic. For the purpose, the Civil Aviation Authority of Moldova opened talks with European companies based on the Open Skies agreement with the EU and with Central Asia giants based on bilateral air transport agreements.

The launch of direct flights to the U.S. will contribute to increasing passenger traffic and competitiveness on the domestic aviation market and will bring benefits to passengers through high- quality services, lower fares and reduced travel.

The consultations on the agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States were held in accordance with the Government’s program to increase Moldova’s regional role in civil aviation.
