The Democratic Party considers illegal the decision of the Prosecutor General’s Office on Monday, August 5, which announces the start of a criminal case over the usurpation of state power by the former government, between June 7 and 14. The party says in a press releasethat "starting a criminal case regarding the alleged coup d'etat is part of the harassment strategy employed against representatives of the Democratic Party and reflects the new government's desire to suppress political pluralism, by outlawing the DPM”.
"Out of a desire for revenge, the PSRM-ACUM government intends to persecute the democrats, until the DPM is outlawed, so that the main opposition party cannot participate in general local and in snap parliamentary elections in a few constituencies", reads the press release.
The DPM is waiting for the Prosecutor General’s Office order to be published in order to take legal action against it in court. "We are sure that the initiators of this case are not the prosecutors, but politicians from the ruling parties," the PDM statement said.
Earlier today Acting General Prosecutor Dumitru Robu ordered the start of a criminal case over alleged usurpation of state power, between June 7 and 14, 2019, by the former Modlovan government.
"Due to factual and legal errors in the order refusing to commence the criminal prosecution issued by the former interim Prosecutor General, Igor Popa, on July 23, 2019, today, it has been canceled," states the press release.
Article 339 (Usurpation of state power) of the Criminal Code stipulates a prison sentence of 10 to 15 years.
