Dozens of cellars and farmlands flooded in Cahul

Dozens of cellars and farmlands have been flooded in Cahul after the recent rain. Ion Caraja, head of the Cahul Emergencies Division, has told IPN that a number of settlements in the district were affected by floods.

The rescuers intervened to pump water out at six addresses in Cahul town, including out of the basement of the surgery block of the Cahul District Hospital.

In Tartaul de Salcie village, the water was pumped out of two cellars. The rain damaged a road section of 8 kilometers there. In Rosu village, there were flooded 30 hectares of rape. In Ciadir- Lunga, the water was pumped out of the basement of the local school.

According to the mayor of Burlacu Mihai Munteanu, the flood waters in parts reached three meters, but this information wasn’t confirmed by officials of the Emergencies Department. The reports that a child died weren’t confirmed either. “Two sisters were returning from school and could have been taken by waters, but they reached home safe,” said the mayor. Two bridges in the village were destroyed, while a number of roads were blocked.

In the Gagauz village Svetlyi, the rescuers are building levees to protect 20 houses and are pumping the water out of the cellars of 17 houses.
