Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that together with the European Council’s decision, the Republic of Moldova starts the accession negotiations with the European Union. According to him, Moldova is European and its future is in the EU, IPN reports.
“The European Council’s historic decision is the result of the effort we have all made the past few years together with President Maia Sandu. We know what we have to do and are determined to continue the reforms so as to become part of the big European family as soon as possible,” stated Premier Recean.
On Thursday, the European Council decided to open accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova and to grant the EU candidate status to Georgia. The EU will also open negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina once the necessary degree of compliance with the membership criteria is reached. The European Commission was invited to report on this by March so that a decision could be taken.
