Dorin Recean responds to BCS group: When opposition goes to Moscow, it should ask for end to war

Prime Minister Dorin Recean said the augmentation of citizens’ incomes is the only method by which they can respond to the no-confidence motion proposed by the parliamentary opposition. According to the Premier, the Government is making every effort to increase the people’s wellbeing and the program “Bonus for Moldova” is a relevant example in this regard. The official explained that a large part of the economic problems experienced by the country are due to the Russian military aggression in Ukraine, IPN reports.

The parliamentary group of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) put forward a no-confidence motion against the Recean Cabinet, enumerating among the reasons the prolongation of the state of emergency in Moldova and the regression in the social protection sector. The parliamentary opposition criticizes the Cabinet for indexing the pensions not in accordance with the law – by only 15% instead of 30% - and for offering the teachers and police officers lump sums instead of pay raises as an electoral move.

“We responded to this motion. I went and presented the reallocation of over 1.6 billion lei by which we increased the salaries of doctors,  offered one-off payments to teachers, police officers, rescuers, carabineers, supplemented the budget for the AIPA, for farmers, increased the budget for roads and infrastructure development. I thunk this is a normal response. This is possible because the Republic of Moldova is helped by the European partners, by Romania, the U.S. We cope with all the difficulties,” Dorin Recean stated in the program “Reflection Points” on Vocea Basarabiei station.

The Premier noted that the rise in prices and in heat and electricity charges is a consequence of the war started by Russia against Ukraine. He suggested that the representatives of the opposition should request the Kremlin to stop the war.

“I want to transmit a message to the opposition. They should look around and see that we are close to the warzone, to Russian’s aggression against Ukraine and this affects us, while the opposition pretended that nothing has happened. They pretend that we live on an island and are isolated from these problems. That’s why, when they go to Moscow, they should persuade their favorites there to stop the war,” said Dorin Recean.

In accordance with the law, a no-confidence motion is adopted by the votes of at least 51 MPs. The parliamentary group of the BCS has 29 members.
