Dorin Popovich not reinstated in post

The Supreme Court of Justice Wednesday rejected Dorin Popovich's application, challenging his dismissal from the post of judge, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Institute for Human Rights of Moldova. Dorin Popovich is accused of violating the principle of impartiality and the judicial ethics. The former judge examined 32 legal cases within short periods of time and imposed illegal punishments, including on Oxana Radu. In April 2009, he ordered arresting the young woman, though she had a child younger than 12 at home. Under the Code of Administrative Offenses, the woman was to be ensured with access to a lawyer. At the March 23 meeting of the Supreme Council of Magistrates, Dorin Popovich said he went to the police station to try cases after discussing with the president of the Buiucani court and other officials and obtaining the approval of the former chairman of the Supreme Council of Magistrates Nicolae Clima and current president of the Supreme Court of Justice Ion Muruianu.
