After his candidacy was publicly announced on Tuesday evening by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, Dorin Junghietu was sworn in as minister of energy at 09:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace and involved the head of state and the head of the Government.
President Maia Sandu said that the new minister has important projects ahead, including the Chisinau-Vulcănești power line, as well as renewable energy projects, which must be completed in order to substantially reduce consumption costs. Crises are frequent in this field and the energy sector is a difficult one.
For his part, Premier Dorin Recean noted that Dorin Junghietu has high priorities on the list and wished him success as head of the ministry he took over.
"An expert in the fields of gas and energy, with an international professional experience of over 16 years in coordinating and commissioning major projects in the energy sector, Dorin Junghietu has responsibility for managing this strategic field," Prime Minister Recean wrote last night on social media.
Dorin Junghietu last autumn won the contest to fill the position of chairman of the Board of Directors of Moldovagaz, but, according to Premier Recean, Gazprom did not approve the change.
Moldova had not had a minister of energy since December 5, 2024, when Victor Parlicov was dismissed. Since then, the post was held on an interim basis by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, even during the period when a state of emergency was in force in the energy sector.
