Judoka Dorin Goțonoagă finished seventh at the Paris Grand Slam. He scored four victories in the 81 kg class, against Vladimir Zoloev of Kirgizstan, Alain Aprahamian of Uruguay, Faouzi Abrahams of the Ivory Coast and South-Korean Sungho Lee. He then lost to Belgium’s Matthias Casse, who won the Paris Grand Slam, and in the playoffs was defeated by Kamoliddin Rasulov of Uzbekistan, IPN reports.
In the same weight class, Nikon Zaboroshchuk won two victories, against Germany’s Tim Gramkow and Nicolas Chilard of France, and was beaten by Canadian judoka Antoine Valois-Fortier, who won bronze.
Two victories were also scored by Denis Vieru, who last year became a winner in Paris. He won against Reda Seddouki of France and Nijat Shikjalizada of Azerbaijan, but lost to the future winner of the 66 kg class,An Baul of South Korea.
In the 73 kg class, Petru Pelivan won a victory, while Victor Sterpu was eliminated in the first round by the future finalist Zhansay Smagulov of Kazakhstan.
In the women’s competition, Cristina Blanaru had only one fight in the 52 kg class.
