Dorin Chirtoaca writes letter to Europeans

Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca sent an open letter to the European partners in protest at the abuses of the prosecution bodies and the violations committed in his case. The letter is addressed to the European Union, the Council of Europe, the EU Delegation to Moldova and the U.S. Embassy, IPN reports.

According to Dorin Chirtoaca, his case was sent to court in breach of the law. He was unable to study it and see what it contains. “Today I presented myself to the prosecutor’s office to continue to study the materials of the case, as I was invited on July 21. Instead of being familiarized with the materials, I was informed that the prosecutor in charge of the case is on leave and the case was sent to court. But we could not examine it and could not see the videos and other materials,” wrote Dorin Chirtoaca.

The mayor noted that under the Procedure Code, he had to formulate applications, approaches and questions, but this is an abuse. “I have nothing against those who deal with the case. They probably just do their job, but taken together things look differently than they try to present them...”.

In the letter, Dorin Chirtoaca describes a number of acts in his case that are classed as abuses. According to him, the divisions of the Chisinau City Hall work under pressure, while the employees and private individuals are obliged to make false statements against him. Instead of making public his case, as he requested, the prosecutors issued only a press release that contains accusations and the request to suspend him by a decision of the Chisinau Municipal Council, even if the Council does not have such a power, etc.

Dorin Chirtoaca is accused of passive corruption, taking of bribe through an intermediary to hasten and perform an act and influence peddling.
