In 2013, the budget of Chisinau municipality is by about 15% larger than in 2012 and almost twice larger compared with 2007-2008, Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca said when presenting a progress report for the last year, IPN reports.

The mayor said the budget was increased with own resources. He called on the central authorities not to exert pressure on the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti in order to supplement the national budget, but to allow the municipalities to make use of the sources of income so as to resolve their problems.

Dorin Chirtoaca said that in 2012-2013 they managed to ensure the stability of the water and heat supply and of the other services. For the first time in Moldova, in Chisinau there were assembled 30 trolleybuses, in partnership with the Minsk plant Belkommunmash, at a price that was 2-3 times lower than the market one.

The lake in “Valea Morilor” Park was reconstructed and laid out. There were modernized 11 streets, intersections and a bridge within the program “Genesis”. By at least 4 million lei was allocated for every settlement that forms part of Chisinau municipality. A European program was launched to sort waste by collecting paper, glass and plaster separately. There were set up 1,000 new rubbish containers.  The broadest water pipe and sewerage program, of 97 million lei, was continued in the city and its suburbs.

Among the accomplishments, the mayor also mentioned the building of about 50 new playgrounds and 10 fitness grounds in parks.

Dorin Chirtoaca said that the problem of floods in the area of the Railway Terminal and on a number of streets was solved in 2012-2013. The number of kiosks and advertising billboards was reduced by 10%. There were replaced 27 km of heat pipes and planted about 15,000 trees and bushes. The feasibility study to reconstruct and modernize the water supplier Apa-Canal was finished.
